The SI POS Site Server is an essential part of ServingIntel’s local network, helping tablets and workstations at partner sites work together seamlessly. It keeps sales, employee transactions, CRM, and transaction logs synced in real-time with the cloud server using secure connections.

While not mission-critical—since devices can switch to the cloud server or work independently—the server ensures smooth operations by managing data flow between local devices and the cloud. It uses Microsoft’s Lync Server to keep everything synchronized during busy hours. Unlike the cloud server, it doesn’t handle historical files or provide a user interface; its main focus is efficient data transfer.

To protect sensitive information, the server operates within a secure VLAN that meets PCI DSS standards, with all data encrypted both in transit and at rest. Maintenance, like manual data syncing, happens after hours to avoid disruptions. Service desk teams can monitor and manage synchronization through logs and alerts.

Here are the minimum and recommended specifications for a Windows virtual server to run MS SQL Express, MS Link Server, and ServingIntel’s point-of-sale software.

1. Minimum Specifications

  • Operating System: Windows 11 Pro or Windows Server 2019/2022 Standard (Windows Server is better for growth).
  • CPU: 2 virtual CPUs with at least 2 GHz speed.
  • RAM: 8 GB for basic SQL and POS software use.
  • Storage:
    • 32 GB total (10 GB for the operating system, 10 GB for data, and 12 GB as a buffer).
    • SSD is preferred for faster performance.
  • Network: Standard 1 Gbps network connection.
  • Backup: Cloud-managed backups, so no local backup needed.
  • Monitoring: Integrated with ConnectWise for tracking performance.

2. Recommended Specifications

  • Operating System: Windows Server 2019/2022 Standard for better management and scalability.
  • CPU: 4 virtual CPUs with at least 2.5 GHz speed.
  • RAM: 16 GB to handle busy periods smoothly.
  • Storage:
    • 64 GB total (10 GB for the operating system, 10 GB for data, and 44 GB as a buffer).
    • NVMe SSD recommended for faster data access and smoother POS software operation.
  • Network: Standard 1 Gbps network connection.
  • Backup: No local backup required.
  • Monitoring: Integrated with ConnectWise for alerts and performance tracking.

3. Why These Specs Are Needed

  • CPU and RAM: Low usage setup, but extra resources ensure smooth operation during busy times.
  • Storage: Small data size, but a buffer is included for smooth operation and future needs.
  • Operating System: Windows Server offers better management and room to grow compared to Windows 11 Pro.
  • Network: Standard connection meets the requirements.
  • Monitoring: ConnectWise helps identify issues early and prevents downtime.
